Clergy Tax Seminar
Prerequisites: None
Credit: 2 CPE Credit Hours
Objectives: To gain specific knowledge about relevant changes to current tax laws and learn about payroll issues related to ministers, such as employment status, housing allowances, reimbursable expenses, tax-free benefits, retirement plans, and more.
Church Finance / Legal Update Seminar
Prerequisites: None
Credit: 4 CPE Credit Hours
Objectives: To gain specific knowledge about relevant changes to current tax laws and learn more about the basics of general church finance, including how to handle unique issues related to church employees and contractors, reimbursement plans, charitable gifts, tax-deductible contributions, expense reimbursement, financial records, reporting, and more.
Speakers:
Elaine Sommerville, CPA
Elaine is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas. For 35 years, her practice has focused on tax compliance aspects of nonprofit organizations and churches. She is the sole shareholder of the CPA firm of Sommerville & Associates, P.C. located in Arlington, Texas, which provides tax and consulting services to over 300 churches and nonprofit organizations. Elaine is married to Frank, and the team will lead our Church Finance session together.
Frank Sommerville
Frank is a shareholder in the law firm of Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski & Zuber, P.C. in Houston and Arlington, Texas. He is Board Certified in Tax Law and licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. Frank has presented seminars on nonprofit taxation and employment issues since 1981, including this annual tax seminar for more than 30 years. Frank is married to Elaine, and the team will lead our Church Finance session together.
